Key Responsibilities:
- Own administration, reliability, and performance of MySQL and PostgreSQL databases.
- Manage AWS RDS Aurora clusters, including patching, version upgrades, migrations, scaling, and decommissioning.
- Database performance tuning initiatives (query optimization, indexing strategies, execution plan analysis).
- Make informed architectural tradeoffs to reduce operational overhead and technical debt.
- Support disaster recovery planning, backup/restore strategies, and incident response.
Must Haves:
- 5+ years of overall software engineering experience.
- Proven experience in database performance tuning and optimization.
- Strong hands-on experience with MySQL and PostgreSQL administration in production environments.
- Deep expertise in AWS RDS Aurora, including lifecycle management (patching, upgrades, migrations, decommissioning).
- Strong understanding of indexing strategies and execution plan analysis.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with high-availability configurations, replication, and failover strategies, zero-downtime migration techniques.
- Strong understanding of database security (encryption at rest/in transit, IAM integration, access controls).
- Experience in regulated environments (SOC2, ISO 27001, GDPR compliance).
- Experience with backup/restore strategies and disaster recovery planning.
- Experience in governance, risk, compliance (GRC) or fintech domains.
