SOC 2 is an auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) used to evaluate how service organizations protect client data. A Type II examination is the more comprehensive form: rather than assessing controls at a single point in time, it verifies that they function consistently over a sustained review period.
